King’s Lynn Town returned to the Docherty Walks for the first time since mid-September as they welcomed Buxton FC, with the Linnets looking to make it five wins from six. And they did just that, winning 1-0.
It was a very even start to the game, with neither side providing much of a threat on goal. Buxton’s Owen Devonport came closest in the second minute; however, his half-chance was easily claimed by Ronnie Hollingshead.
As the first half progressed, King’s Lynn started to apply the pressure, with Jesse Nwabueze having the best chances for the Linnets, including an audacious chipped effort which was claimed by the Buxton keeper.
The Linnets’ pressure continued to grow as Lynn worked the ball down the wing, with Rhys Doherty playing a dangerous ball into the box. The ball was ultimately put behind for a corner, but the Linnets continued to grow stronger as the game progressed.
Eventually, the Linnets’ pressure paid off.
Five minutes before the break, Logan Stretch took down a charging Ed Leach in the area, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot and award the Linnets a penalty.
Jesse Nwabueze stepped up to the spot and
rifled the ball into the top-left corner to send the Docherty Walks wild, as the Linnets went into the break with a one-goal lead.
The early stages of the second half mirrored those of the first, as the game continued to be very even, with most of the battles being won in the middle of the park.
Carlton Ubaezuonu had the best chance of the half to double the Linnets’ lead, as substitute Harley Hamilton played a dangerous ball across the box. Ubaezuonu met the ball but could not find the target.
Ross Crane also came close with a couple of opportunities as he returned to action for the first time since August. However, his efforts went wide.
As the second half ticked away, the Linnets’ defence held strong in what was another fantastic display. The Linnets secured their third successive clean sheet as the game finished 1-0.
Yesterday’s attendance was 1,351. A huge thank you to all our supporters; your support is always appreciated.
We return to action next weekend as we travel to Merthyr Town.
