The Linnets returned to league action as they looked to make it four wins from five in the league, as they travelled to face AFC Telford United. And the Linnets did just that, and in some style, as they ran out 5-0 winners.
The first chance of the game fell to the hosts in the fifth minute, as Telford came close to taking the lead, with Rio Owen’s curling strike denied by the post.
Five minutes later, the Linnets opened the scoring, as a fantastic ball from Tom Scott found Carlton Ubaezuonu between two defenders, with Carlton able to head home to give the Linnets the lead with their first shot of the game.
Telford looked to respond after falling behind, as Jordan Cranston unleashed a powerful effort towards goal. However, it was well saved by Hollingshead.
Ed Leach presented himself with a fantastic shooting opportunity after a brilliant bit of solo play. However, his shot was blocked.
In the 25th minute, Telford had the ball in the net, but it didn’t count, as the hosts capitalised on a defensive error, with Stenson opting to square the ball to Mitchell rather than shooting himself.
However, Mitchell was deemed to have been behind the last defender, meaning the goal would not count and the Linnets’ lead was still intact.
The disallowed goal woke the crowd up, as the game became a little bit frantic with Telford pushing for an equaliser. However, the Linnets were able to play through the madness at the SEAH Stadium, as they defended well and maintained the majority of possession. The Linnets led at the break.
Four minutes into the second half, the Linnets doubled their lead, as Ed Leach unlocked the defence, sending Carlton Ubaezuonu one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Ubaezuonu was able to knock it around Hall before playing the ball into an open net for his second of the afternoon.
Two minutes later, the Linnets were awarded a penalty after Jesse Nwabueze was brought down by Orrin Pendley, giving the Linnets a real chance to put themselves three goals in front.
Jesse Nwabueze stepped up to the spot. However, his powerful effort was well saved by Brandon Hall to keep the score at two-nil.
The Linnets continued to search for a third, as Tom Scott found himself in a shooting position from the edge of the area. However, his shot was pushed behind by Hall.
As the second half progressed, Telford looked to find a way back into the game with a good spell of possession. However, the Linnets’ defence held strong, limiting the hosts to very little in the second half, in what was a fantastic all-round defensive display from King’s Lynn.
Fifteen minutes from time, Carlton Ubaezuonu completed his hat-trick, as Ed Leach and Tom Scott combined, allowing Scott a crossing opportunity. Scott’s ball caused a scramble in the area, but it was slotted home by Ubaezuonu to round off a fantastic afternoon for the Linnets’ number nine.
Five minutes later, King’s Lynn Town made it four! Reece Hall-Johnson produced a moment of magic, striking from 30 yards to find the back of the net, as his effort looped into the bottom-right corner.
It got even better for the Linnets a few moments from time, as King’s Lynn Town made it five. Substitutes Noah Rubio and Layton Love combined, with Layton Love’s strike rounding off an incredible away day for the Linnets, as the game ended 5-0 to the Linnets.
