The Emirates FA Cup returns this weekend, with Step Two football clubs joining the party in the Second Qualifying Round.
For the Linnets, they take on National League North side Bedford Town at the New Eyrie on Saturday 19th September.
The Linnets reached the fourth qualifying round of last year’s FA Cup, where they fell to defeat to National League side Scunthorpe United at the Attis Arena. On their way to the fourth qualifying round, they beat Chesham United and Royston Town.
Bedford Town were eliminated at the first hurdle in the FA Cup last campaign, as they lost by a goal to nil in a Second Qualifying Round Replay away to Dagenham & Redbridge of the National League South.
Both sides go into this game with three wins out of their last four. Lynn have beaten Scarborough Athletic, Darlington and Chorley, with the only defeat in the last four matches coming at home to Hednesford Town. Bedford won three games in a row, with those nine points coming against AFC Telford United, Radcliffe and Worksop, while falling to defeat last time out away to Spalding United.
The Eagles have had a brilliant start to their second consecutive season at Step Two. They sit outside the play-offs by a point, with five wins to their name, zero draws and four losses, collecting fifteen points from nine games. A stat that needs to be mentioned is that Bedford haven’t drawn any of their last nine matches, but in their final three matches of last campaign, they drew all three. Lynn haven’t drawn a game since the opening day of the new campaign, which was a one-all draw at home to Harborough Town. I would say, with all this, don’t expect a draw to take place, but the FA Cup can literally cause the biggest of upsets and the biggest of shocks, so I’m going to refrain from trying to predict anything.
King’s Lynn Town will visit The New Eyrie tomorrow in high spirits, with the hopes of a cup run on the cards after seeing the Linnets slowly climb up the table over the last few weeks and with the fact that they are currently in the best run of form they have had since Paul Caddis became First Team Manager. However, Bedford Town are no easy test, especially with the likes of George Moncur in the side. He already has three goals to his name this campaign and scored a late winner in the last meeting between the Linnets and the Eagles.
A game that could go either way, in a prestigious cup competition, away from home with a full coach of Linnets travelling to Bedfordshire, it’s definitely not a game to miss.
