King’s Lynn Town looked to make it three wins in a row as they welcomed Hednesford Town to the Docherty Walks for a clash under the lights. However, the Linnets fell to a 3-2 defeat.
The game started slowly for both sides, with the visitors having the majority of the possession in the opening stages. The first effort at goal fell to Jamie Cooke, whose shot was comfortably saved by Hollingshead.
However, 25 minutes into the game, the away side took the lead as Ahkeem Rose latched onto a cross from Lenni Cirino, poking the ball past Hollingshead to put Hednesford in front.
The Linnets grew into the game after falling behind, with Carlton Ubaezuonu meeting a dangerous cross from Jesse Nwabueze, but his header went over.
The Linnets kept pushing, with Harley Hamilton getting into a really nice crossing position and delivering a dangerous low cross into the box. However, the ball was pushed away from danger by the goalkeeper as the Linnets continued to search for an equaliser.
And in the 38th minute, they got their equalising goal. Hednesford were unable to clear a Michael Clunan free-kick, not once but twice, before the ball eventually fell to Harley Hamilton, who was able to slot the ball home for his second of the season.
Jesse Nwabueze went close to giving the
Linnets the lead before the break as his effort flashed across goal. However, the first half ended level.
The second half started slowly for both sides. However, just after the hour mark, Hednesford took the lead once again.
Substitute Aaron Jarvis latched onto a long ball, slotting the ball into the far bottom corner as the Linnets found themselves behind once again.
Five minutes later, Hednesford Town had a third, as Jamie Cooke fired the ball home past Hollingshead.
The Linnets tried desperately to respond. Ethan Warne was picked out unmarked at the back post, but he could not find the target, with his effort hitting the side netting. Substitute Layton Love also went close, as his powerful effort struck the post.
However, four minutes from time, the Linnets were awarded a penalty. Layton Love was bundled to the ground, giving Michael Clunan the chance to drag the Linnets back into the game. However, the Linnets skipper saw his penalty saved by Sam Hornby.
Moments later, the Linnets were awarded another penalty as Jesse Nwabueze was brought down. The Linnets winger stepped up to the spot and smashed the ball into the top corner to give the Linnets a lifeline.
Despite the spirited late fightback from the Linnets, it wasn’t enough, as the contest ended 3-2 to the visitors.
