King’s Lynn Town looked to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they returned to the North East to take on Darlington FC, where they ran out 2-0 winners.
It was a slow start to the game for both sides, with Jesse Nwabueze going closest in the early stages for the Linnets. However, his shot was well saved by Bobby Jones.
As the first half progressed, Darlington grew into the game, with Ronnie Hollingshead being called into action in the 12th minute to deny Ethan Fitzhugh at the near post.
Darlington continued to grow into the game, enjoying a strong spell of possession in the first half. However, the Linnets' defence held firm, allowing very few chances despite the hosts' control of the game.
As the first half looked to be ending level, a decent attacking move from the Linnets provided a great opportunity. As Harley Hamilton was fouled on the edge of the area, giving the Linnets a real opportunity before the break.
And the Linnets took that opportunity. Jesse Nwabueze produced a moment of magic from the free kick, blasting the ball over the wall with enough dip on the strike to find the top right-hand corner and ensure the Linnets led at the interval.
The second half started similarly to the first, with both sides unable to get a foothold in the game. However, it was the hosts who had the better chances to start the half.
Stephenson found himself through on goal after breaching the Linnets' defence. However, his effort couldn’t find the target, going over the bar.
Moments later, Ronnie Hollingshead produced another moment of magic for the Linnets. Sam Hetherington fired a volley from the edge of the Linnets' area, aiming for the top corner, but Hollingshead produced an incredible full-stretch save to ensure the Linnets remained in front.
As the second half wore on, the hosts searched for an equaliser. However, in the 73rd minute, the Linnets grabbed a second. Substitute Tom Scott drove forward with the ball before picking out Carlton Ubaezuonu, who was able to slot the ball home for his second goal in two games, ensuring all three points returned to West Norfolk.
