Matchday five of the 2026/2027 Enterprise National League North campaign sees the Linnets take on Daniel Moore’s newly promoted Hebburn Town.
Hebburn will come into this game as favourites, taking ten points from a possible twelve at the start of the new season.
They kicked off the season with a convincing three-one win at home against Southport. Matty Cornish got his first goal of the season ten minutes into the game. Jake Charles, who has been firing on all cylinders since the season kicked off, got his first goal of the season two minutes before the break.
After a slow start to the second half, Southport turned the tide of pressure and got their rewards fifteen minutes into the second half through Dan Ogwuru. After Southport found their way back into the game, Hebburn stood strong, netting a third two minutes before the ninety-minute mark to put the game to bed and secure their first home win of the new campaign.
Following that was a one-all draw away to Brackley, where Jake Charles netted his second of the campaign, only for O’Shea Ellis to cancel it out seven minutes later through a splendid long-range effort.
Now, this is one game that I would especially like to highlight. Hebburn took on Worksop Town at home and came away 1-0 winners through an 83rd-minute penalty, which was converted by Josh Donaldson. The reason I’d like to highlight this game is because that win marked a full calendar year unbeaten at home for the Hornets. Twenty-two games, seventeen wins, five draws and zero losses.
The last time Hebburn were beaten on home soil was on the opening day of the 2025/2026 season. They lost one-nil at home to Hednesford Town. Dominic McHale scored for the visitors five minutes into the second half, which proved to be the winning goal on the day.
The last defeat for the Hornets came away to Ilkeston Town on Saturday 28th February. Daniel Odunaya opened the scoring for Ilkeston twenty-one minutes into the first half. Hebburn replied just before the interval, with Olly Martin getting the equalising goal. Thirteen minutes into the second half, Daniel Odunaya got his second, and the hosts’ second goal of the afternoon. Robbie Fox got the winning goal seven minutes later. Hebburn replied with a second for the visitors three minutes after Ilkeston got their third, but it wasn’t enough to see the Hornets repair the damage or complete a comeback.
Since that game, Hebburn have won ten games, with six of them coming consecutively. The Hornets have drawn three times during this unbeaten run, taking the total number of consecutive games unbeaten in competitive matches to a staggering 13.
Last time out for the Hornets was away at Buxton, where they picked up another three points, and Jake Charles was at the double, carrying on his fantastic start to the campaign. Hebburn took the lead nine minutes into the game, but Brazilian wonderkid Guilherme Siqueira levelled the game fifteen minutes later. The half ended all square. On the sixty-sixth-minute mark, Jake Charles netted his second of the afternoon, which would eventually prove to be the winning goal of the game.
King’s Lynn Town need to bounce back from the woeful performance last time out against Marine at home, with a second-half display that was described as a “total capitulation” by First Team Manager Paul Caddis. Four goals in thirty-one minutes saw Bobby Grant’s Marine breeze past the Linnets for their first win of the campaign, in a game which saw them score their first goal of the new campaign.
So, it’s all to play for tomorrow afternoon at the Trustmark Group Stadium. Do Hebburn extend their fantastic unbeaten home record, or do King’s Lynn Town put that record to bed?
