King’s Lynn Town looked to bounce back from their disappointing trip to Chester as they travelled to Brackley Town, where they picked up their first three points of the season.
It was an even start to the game, but the first chance fell to the hosts as Evan Williams let fly from the edge of the area. However, it was an easy catch for Hollingshead.
Throughout these early stages, King’s Lynn began to find their footing, as Jesse
Nwabueze got past Coates for the first time and drilled a delightful ball into Tom Scott, who couldn’t quite get his shot off.
Nwabueze, who was one of the real standouts for the Linnets, came so close to opening the scoring.
Ryan Tunnicliffe’s ball found Nwabueze in space on the left-hand side of the box. He took a touch and went for the far corner, but his shot just whistled past the post.
The Linnets really began to grow throughout the first half, as Ross Crane did well to cut inside and get a shot away on a night where both wingers caused so many problems.
In the 26th minute, the Linnets got the opener as Jesse Nwabueze got past Coates once again and played a dangerous ball into the box, where it bounced around and ended up in the back of the net courtesy of a Brackley Town defender.
The Linnets kept pushing for their second, as a brilliant double save from Rhone first denied Kwame Thomas from a header and then Ross Crane to keep the scoreline at 1-0.
As the game approached half-time, Tom Scott came so close to making it 2-0. A fantastic team move started with Hall-Johnson, who found Nwabueze. Nwabueze laid it into Tom Scott, whose effort was only denied by another fantastic save from Rhone, as the first half ended with the Linnets ahead.
The second half started in much the same way, as Ross Crane broke away and eventually found Tom Scott, whose effort was once again denied by Rhone as the search for the second goal continued.
The hosts still looked a threat at this time, but they were never truly able to test Hollingshead or his defence in what was a fantastic defensive performance.
Reece Hall-Johnson came so close to making it two. A floating Michael Clunan corner routine found a darting Hall-Johnson all alone at the back post, whose diving header just went wide. A huge opportunity to extend the lead for the Linnets.
As the second half progressed, King’s Lynn really began to take control, with some really good spells of possession.
However, the hosts did still look a threat as they very nearly found an equaliser, with Tahvon Campbell firing wide and aiming for the far corner in an almost identical chance to Nwabueze’s in the first half.
But with twenty minutes remaining, King’s Lynn Town got the all-important second goal. A brilliant Michael Clunan free kick bounced into the box and, after a bit of confusion, it was Harley Hamilton who got the all-important touch to extend the lead.
The hosts had no response as the game ticked away in what was a fantastic all-round performance from Paul Caddis’ side, who picked up their first three points of the season before welcoming Marine AFC to the Docherty Walks this Saturday.
