On a sunny August afternoon, league football returned to The Docherty Walks, as King’s Lynn Town welcomed newly promoted Harborough Town, with both sides taking a point in a 1-1 draw.
It was almost a lightning-fast start for the Linnets, as Jahmari Lindsay’s cross found Tom Scott in the box, who went for a spectacular flick towards goal, only to be denied by the post inside the opening two minutes.
It was an end-to-end start in the opening ten minutes, as Jesse Nwabueze went close for the Linnets again. He cut inside at pace and fired the ball towards the near post, but was denied by an excellent save from the keeper.
Harborough were a constant threat going forward from set pieces, particularly from long throws and corners throughout the game, which looked like they could be a real problem for the Linnets in the early stages.
And in the 13th minute, Harborough took the lead after a defensive mix-up saw the ball fall to O’Sullivan in space, who was able to blast the ball into the bottom-right corner to give the visitors a dream start.
The Linnets looked to respond as Jahmari Lindsay went close with a powerful effort from the edge of the area. However, his effort just went wide of the post.
However, it was the visitors who had the best chance to double their lead, as Callum Powell found himself alone in the King’s Lynn box, only to be denied by a fantastic save from Ronnie Hollingshead, as the Linnets went in behind at the break.
The second half began with the visitors hammering the Linnets defence with an onslaught of set pieces, causing a real problem for Hollingshead and his defenders, as the Linnets looked like they would need a bit of magic to rescue anything from the game.
In the 55th minute, the Linnets got their equaliser, as Aaron Jones slipped Jesse Nwabueze through, who blasted the ball into the roof of the net to draw the Linnets back level.
Momentum swung the Linnets’ way as they looked to find a winner, with Kwame Thomas’ spectacular overhead kick hitting the woodwork.
Thomas went close again on a couple of occasions, while Tom Scott also came close to finding a winner. However, the points were ultimately shared.
