As we approach the opening game of a new season, I wanted to take the opportunity to speak directly to you.
Five and a half weeks ago, we returned to training with an incomplete squad, plenty of work still to do and a clear idea of what we wanted to build. We started on 25th June with testing days, knowing the weeks ahead would demand a huge amount from everyone involved.
I’m extremely proud of the squad we’ve assembled. Around 70% of the group is new, and every player who has joined King’s Lynn Town has been brought here because I believe they can contribute something to this football club.
I’m equally proud of the players who remained with us. They have embraced change, helped set standards and played an important role in bringing a completely new group together.
Before Saturday’s game, I spoke to the players about the journey we’ve already shared.
Together, we’ve seen many parts of King’s Lynn and the surrounding area. We’ve run the tracks of Sandringham, tackled the hills and sand dunes at Bawsey Country Park, trained at The Walks, spent time in coffee shops around the town and shared countless hours together on the training ground. Between training sessions and matches, this group has covered well over 100 miles during pre-season.
It hasn’t been easy.
In truth, it wasn’t supposed to be.
If you want to build strong foundations, you have to be prepared to put in the work. Every run, every session and every difficult moment has been designed with a purpose. Success isn’t something you stumble across. It’s earned through consistency, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to improving every day.
Recruitment has been another huge part of our summer. Since returning, we’ve welcomed twelve new players into the football club. Every signing has been carefully considered, not just for the qualities they possess as footballers, but for the character they would bring into the dressing room.
There have also been difficult decisions. Some players came into the building and, despite their footballing ability, I didn’t believe they were the right fit for the culture we’re trying to create. Those conversations are never easy, but protecting the standards of this football club will always come first.
Today, I no longer see a group of returning players and a group of new signings.
I see one team.
A group that has grown together through hard work, shared experiences and a willingness to challenge one another. A dressing room that combines youth with experience and individuals who all share the same ambition—to represent King’s Lynn Town in the right way and bring success to this football club.
We’re by no means the finished article. There is still work to do, and there always will be. But every day I see a group becoming stronger, closer and more united.
Football clubs are often judged by what happens for ninety minutes on a Saturday afternoon, but there’s so much more that goes into making those ninety minutes possible.
There are many people whose efforts often go unnoticed, quietly giving their time, energy and commitment because they care deeply about King’s Lynn Town Football Club. Their contribution is invaluable and never taken for granted. They are an important part of what makes this football club what it is.
Now we arrive at the week we’ve all been looking forward to.
The beginning of a new season always brings excitement and optimism. It offers every club a fresh opportunity to write its own story, and we’re eager to begin ours.
The support you’ve shown throughout pre-season, both home and away, has been outstanding. Whether you’ve travelled across the county, stood behind the goal on a warm summer afternoon or simply stopped for a conversation around the town, your encouragement has been greatly appreciated.
One thing I’ve quickly learned is how much this football club means to so many people. That passion is something we never want to take for granted.
What I can promise is this.
This team will work relentlessly. It will compete honestly, represent the badge with pride and never shy away from hard work. There will be moments that test us, as there always are in football, but I have every belief that this group will continue to grow and face those moments together.
I hope, in return, we can continue to count on your backing.
The best football clubs are built on unity. When players, staff, volunteers and supporters all pull in the same direction, special things can happen. That’s what we’re striving for every single day.
Saturday marks the beginning of another chapter for King’s Lynn Town.
Let’s embrace it together.
I look forward to seeing you all at The Walks.
