On the final day of the season, King’s Lynn travelled to Chester. Hanging dangerously around the relegation places. Knowing that a defeat would put their place in the National League North in real jeopardy. However a 0-0 draw was enough to see the Linnets survive.
The early phases of the first half saw Chester, who were still fighting for playoffs themselves, keep most of the ball. As Lewis Leigh’s long range strike calling Chapman into action early.
Despite the control of possession from the hosts, Lynn still had chances to push further up the field. Carlton Ubaezuonu found Brandon Forbes in the box. But the Linnets youngster couldn’t get a good connection on it. Cameron Forde-Brown also went close from a ridiculous halfway line attempt which just went over the bar.
As the half progressed, the hosts kept control of the ball. However, despite all their possession the Linnets defence stood strong, keeping their shape and putting bodies on the line at every opportunity.
The hosts did go close as Connor Woods’ effort flashed across the goal line but stayed out. Then in first half added time, Chester thought they’d taken the lead however the referee called the game back for a foul on Bailey Clements. As the half ended level.
The intensity from the home side ramped out as the second half began as they began to pepper the Linnets goal. However the King’s Lynn defence stood strong in what was a fine defensive performance from the entire team.
Aaron Chapman kept the scores level with a fantastic reflex save to deny Shrimpton’s powerful effort from inside the box. As the Linnets captain pushed it onto the bar to keep the game alive.
As the second half ticked away, it was all still to play for at both ends of the table. Therefore, the intensity on the pitch really ramped up as the game became a real physical battle, as tempers flared and challenges flew in all over the pitch.
As the minutes ticked away, it was a nervy end for the Linnets. However they did come close to winning all three points as substitute Adam Marriott came within inches of finding the bottom corner. However his effort just went wide of the far post.
But the Linnets fought until the very end, as the King’s Lynn players threw their bodies on the line in a fantastic display. As the game ended level.
It was a vital point for the Linnets, as results elsewhere meant that their hard fought draw would be enough for survival. Meaning that King’s Lynn Town will remain in the National League North next season.
A massive thank you to all our supporters who took the long journey to Chester this morning. Your support not only today, but throughout this difficult season has been immense.
